It appears that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has strayed far from its original civil rights roots to manufacture racial and social conflict so it can remain relevant - and raise a lot of money. The bombshell indictment of fraud and money laundering at the Southern Poverty Law Center is a welcome development - close friend of New Trier Neighbors Eli Steele explains it well in his Substack post.
What you might ask your local schools: are you still using SPLC school materials to teach our kids? “Learning for Justice,” formerly known as “Teaching Tolerance,” is a set of widely-used, “social justice”-biased school materials produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Endorsed by the Illinois State Board of Education, these materials have been cited in the past by Wilmette District 39 schools and New Trier High School, and given how public education works, likely many others.
In a 2023 parent presentation at New Trier about “affinity groups” titled “DigNiTy, ”New Trier defined its affinity groups using material from SPLC’s Learning for Justice.
Speakers in the presentation (see additional screenshots of the now deleted video here) outlined how students of color and the “white anti-racist group” (the only apparent group for white kids to join) would meet separately and then have lunch once a month together to talk. In the Q&A it was also noted there would be no Christian affinity group because Christianity is a “dominant” religion.
Is this what a quality educational institution looks like?
We’ll watch real justice play out in the courts regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center. Meanwhile, ask your local schools to scrap the biased materials that the Southern Poverty Law Center churns out.
