20-year-old Katie Abraham was killed in Illinois last year by an illegal immigrant drunk driver who rear-ended her car at 80 miles per hour while she was stopped at a traffic light. Her friend Chloe Polzin was also killed and three others were injured.
While people interfering with ICE operations are elevated as fallen heroes, and mainstream news outlets minimize the fatalities caused by illegal immigrants, families like the Abrahams are stuck with unanswered questions like the one above.
The man who killed Katie was using an alias, and is unable to read or write in English or Spanish. Yet he obtained an Illinois driver’s license, and had ignored court appearances related to previous traffic violations — all of which escaped the attention of Illinois state government.
Governor Pritzker was sent this letter in January, on the anniversary of Katie’s death, by her father Joe. The letter asks common-sense questions, but Joe has yet to receive any sort of acknowledgement or answers from the governor.
Katie was finally honored with a moment of silence on the house floor recently led by an Illinois Republican State Representative. A long-overdue recognition, but not nearly enough to prevent more families from suffering because of failed sanctuary state policies.
Join us February 17th for an evening with Joe Abraham to hear more from Joe about how Illinois sanctuary state policies must change to prevent others from suffering a similar loss.

Joe has been a relentless advocate -- see a few examples here, here, and here. The White House has even helped platform Joe’s story.
Tom Bevan, co-founder and president of Real Clear Politics, will discuss with Joe what Joe has asked of Governor Pritzker and legislators; about the response – or lack thereof; and the path ahead to make Illinois a place that welcomes lawful immigrant families and protects all community members.
